Winter Doesn’t Always Seem Appealing for Lawncare
And while most of us would prefer to stay inside, cozied up with something warm, others are looking for ways to make sure their lawn is still doing pretty good underneath layers of frozen air, snow, or even ice! Here are some tips if you’re looking to DIY it:
(Keep in mind, these tips don’t work in every region and should be applied only when the conditions are right – leave it to a professional, affordable crew like Victory Lawns!)
- Clean The Lawn – leaving debris, leaves, outside toys – whatever it may be – on the lawn during the winter isn’t usually a good thing. These items can bring in pests who are looking for a place to hide against the cool temperatures, or the debris can smother the grass in general to prevent a good emergence next spring.
- Aeration – Giving your grass some extra Oxygen is only helpful – there are both manual and motorized aerators that are useful depending on what size lawn you have. This can help to make seeding easier as well, if you’re looking to do it during this season.
- Food & Water – Keeping your lawn moist (not too dry, not too wet) is ideal when it comes to winter lawn care. Remember, grass grows much slower in the winter so a minimal 1 inch of water per week is plenty to keep the ground moist enough.
In general, it’s good not to ignore your lawn even though it’s cold outside. We’re from the south and we don’t love the harsh, icy winds that come along with our winters, but if you’re looking for optimal spring emergence results, take a few of these tips and apply them to your lawn. And Victory Lawns offers lawn maintenance, tree & shrub services, and more ALL YEAR LONG!
